Being an inspiration to other people definitely has its perks. While you think that what you’re doing is just a part of your routine, some are affected by it in the most beautiful way possible.

A university cleaner described as “the jolliest man” is used to being passed by in school hallways as kids go about their daily school business. Little did he know that his hard work and great personality inspired the students to raise money to make him happy.

Herman Gordon has worked at Bristol University for 12 years. The cleaner, who has not visited his country for more than ten years, is now in his mid-60s and is very much loved by the students at Bristol. His hard work and positivity made him an inspiration to the pupils.

To show their love and appreciation for Herman, students decided to raise money for him through a fundraising page called JustGiving. Two hundred thirty students raised £1,500 (approx. USD 1,961.00) so Herman could visit and spend time with his family in Jamaica and have a much-needed R&R.

In a heartwarming clip that went viral, Herman can be seen crying as he received the donation. He was also given a letter which thanked him for his positivity.

The letter read:

“Dear Herman,

On behalf of the students at Bristol, we would like to thank you for all the positive energy you have given us throughout the years. You have brightened many of our days, and we want you to know that we love and appreciate you. We have come together to give you a special gift as our way of saying thank you. Have a lovely summer!

Much love,

Bristol students”

Herman and his wife Denise, who were celebrating their 23rd wedding anniversary, went to the Caribean and enjoyed two wonderful nights at Sandals resort in Montego Bay.

The pair had a relaxing massage and a private romantic dinner on the beach.

As he arrived at the resort, Herman said: “God bless you all. Everybody will see this and think that I’m a trillionaire.”
