  • Influencers Josh Paler Lin and Leia Se have been slammed online by netizens following their ‘idiotic’ prank video.
  • In the said video, Leia can be seen walking around a supermarket in Bali, Indonesia having a mask painted on her face.
  • Now the pair is facing a possible deportation as a consequence of their actions.

Social media influencers Josh Paler Lin and Leia Se got into trouble in Bali after filming in a supermarket. In the said video. In an attempt to trick other shoppers, Leia had a mask painted on her face instead of wearing one.

The prank did not sit well with netizens as it received a lot of negative comments. On top of that, the video eventually reached Indonesian authorities, which led to the pair’s passports being confiscated.

Josh is a Taiwanese while Leia is a Russian national. Now they’re facing a possible deportation.

According to Bali’s existing policy, foreign nationals will have to pay a fine of IDR1 million (US$68.76) when they violate the mask mandate. But officials have expressed their desire to take the punishment to the next level.

Case in point, Bali Civil Service Police head Dewa Nyoman Rai Dharmadi said they’re preparing to recommend Josh and Leia’s deportation.

“They are not only violating, but deliberately provoking in public, so it’s only proper to sanction them more severely, not just with a fine but also deportation,” he said.

The two influencers eventually uploaded an apology video on Instagram where they appeared with their legal team.

“I made (the) video to entertain people because I am a content creator and it is my job to entertain people,” said Josh. ”I did not realize that what I did could actually bring a lot of negative comments from netizens and raise a lot of concerns… We want to apologize for what we did and we promise not to do it again.”

He also urged those in Indonesia and Bali to “always wear a mask for our own safety and health… so we can help Bali to gain its tourism again.”
