Dentist Reveals 3 Quick Ways To Get Rid of Bad Breath
Bad breath, or often referred to by medical experts as halitosis, can be a big embarrassment. If you have this problem, the good news here is that you can do something about it – and there are simple solutions you can immediately do to get rid of it.
Here are some practical tips from Dr Ada Cooper, dentist and spokesperson of the American Dental Association. According to her, eliminating foul odor from the mouth is indeed possible as long as people observe these easy habits.
1. Don’t just rely on the mouthwash. Brush and floss!
“Don’t think that living a life of mouthwash four times a day is always going to cure your bad breath,” Dr Cooper pointed out.
Besides, not brushing and flossing means you’ll have food remains between your teeth and that’s definitely not a good thing. Food that stays in your mouth is eventually “degraded by bacteria” and that’s when your breath starts smelling funky.
Make sure that you brush everyday – especially before sleeping at night to avoid having food remains in your mouth overnight.
2. Brush your tongue, too.
As Dr Cooper explained:
“Bacteria accumulates in the back surface of your tongue and can also cause strong odor.”
3. Drink lots of water.
Staying hydrated is not only good for your body but also for your breath. Having a dry mouth means “you have less saliva and when you have less saliva, food and bacteria tends to sit in your mouth for a much longer period of time,” the dentist remarked.
Of course, there are instances when doing these 3 things may not be enough. For persistent bad breath, it is recommended that they visit a dentist soon. There is always the possibility that it isn’t only caused by poor hygiene but may be a warning sign of a more serious gum problem.
