6 Everyday Habits That Can Actually Hasten Skin Aging
Having youthful skin is definitely priceless these days. In fact, more people nowadays are very conscious about their health and beauty.
While having wrinkles, fine lines, and sunspots are normal with aging, it does not necessarily mean that we cannot avoid it. Dr Debra Jaliman, MD., a world-renowned dermatologist listed down common habits that unknowingly stimulate skin aging.
#1. Too much sweets

Who doesn’t love sweets? According to the top New Yorker dermatologist, having too much sugar end up glycating the collagen in your skin, causing it to stiffen and aging it. So the next time you are aching for a sugar rush, grab some fruits that have natural sugars instead.
#2. Drinking Alcohol

Having a drink has pretty much become the highlight of parties. However, be warned because excessive drinking causes skin dehydration and lessens skin elasticity, making skin age faster. Always keep it in moderation and drink lots of water.
#3. Lack of Sleep

Dr Jaliman explains that during sleep our skin cells renew. So yes, it’s important to get ample rest. Also, make sure to use a satin pillowcase to prevent facial wrinkles.
4. Getting a Tan

According to Dr Jaliman:
“Sun damage is cumulative; even 10 minutes of exposure a day over the course of a lifetime is enough to cause major problems and age your skin drastically.”
Be sure always to use sunscreen that protect your skin from UVA and UVB.
#5. Smoking

Smoking decreases the supply of blood to the skin. Besides, cigarette contains toxins that attack collagen and elastic fiber which causes wrinkle and skin sagging.
#6. Exposure to pollution

Of course, exposure to air pollution can cause skin darkening and acne-like eruptions according to the skin expert. She reminds that eating fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants is an excellent strategy to fight skin damage from pollution.
