97-Year-Old Grandma Still Rocking It At Weightlifting Competitions





Staying physically fit is important both for the young and old. And it’s always inspiring whenever we hear stories about seniors who still take the time and do their best to keep at it.

That’s why the internet is definitely impressed with Edith Traina from Florida in the United States. The 97-year-old woman recently received a lot of love and attention on social media because of her mind-blowing strength and stamina.

Definitely stronger than your typical grandmother!

Despite her old age, Edith does weightlifting 3 days a week, according to a Metro feature. Moreover, she also attends six competitions each year and she has, so far, won two gold medals at the Polk County Senior Games for the 60-pound bench press and 130-pound deadlift categories.

It all began with a push from a friend.

Edith admitted that although she wasn’t initially excited about the idea of hitting the gym, one of her friends persistently encouraged her.

In an interview with Bay News 9, the strong grandmother shared how things changed for her.

She said:

“I have a friend, Carmen, who is the lady who dragged me kicking and screaming all the way to the gym. When I lift that bar up, as I’m lifting it up in here I hear words like: ‘Oh my God, I’m doing it!’

“If I find I’m sitting in a chair for a whole day, and not doing anything constructive, the next day I light a fire under my tush and get out of the house.”

Edith is surely an inspiration for many.

As if that wasn’t impressive enough, there’s even a competition named after her called the 2018 Edith Traina Inspirational Open. The said event was held at the Stronglife Training Facility in Tampa, Florida, with young and old lifters competing in it.

Meanwhile, it looks like Edith is still far from retiring anytime soon. Besides, she is setting her sights at lifting 200lbs at least “by the time she reaches 100,” Metro wrote.
