‘Dora the Explorer’ Movie Casts Danny Trejo as Boots the Monkey
One of the most loved animated shows for children is finally getting a live action adaptation. Inspired by Nick Jr’s Dora the Explorer series, the official trailer and theatrical posters of Dora and the Lost City of Gold recently dropped.
Scheduled to hit theaters on August 2, 2019, Dora and the Lost City of Gold features Isabela Miner as Dora along with Danny Trejo as Boots the Monkey.

Yes, folks you read that right. As unbelievable as it may sound, Danny Trejo of Machete fame will be playing the role of Boots – or at least providing the voice for Dora’s pet.
The badass Mexican American actor recently made the announcement via his official Twitter page.

It’s a bizarre casting choice for sure and we couldn’t help but wonder who came up with the idea to pick Trejo, primarily known for his role as a machete-welding vigilante, to be the voice of the popular cartoon animal. I mean if you’re familiar with the show, you’ll know the actor doesn’t sound anything like the character at all.
Meanwhile, here are the posters for the upcoming film:

Some keen-eyed fans on social media pointed out the fact that Boots has a slightly different fur color and obviously isn’t wearing his trademark red rain boots on the poster. Others commented that’s just probably Hollywood taking liberties to make things look a bit more ‘realistic’.
You can also watch the movie’s first trailer here:
Dora and the Lost City of Gold also stars Eva Longoria as Elena, Temuera Morrison as Powell, Jeffrey Wahlberg as Diego, Michael Peña as Dora’s father, Pia Miller as Diego’s mother, Q’orianka Kilcher as Inca Princess Kawillaka, Eugenio Derbez as Alejandro Gutierrez, Adriana Barraza as Abuela Valerie, Madeleine Madden as Sammy, Benicio Del Toro as Swiper the Fox.
The film’s synopsis reads:
“Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle, nothing could prepare Dora for her most dangerous adventure yet — high school. Accompanied by a ragtag group of teens and Boots the monkey, Dora embarks on a quest to save her parents while trying to solve the seemingly impossible mystery behind a lost Incan civilization.”
