  • Acclaimed Director Neil Blomkamp has confirmed he is now working on a District 9 sequel.
  • He recently announced that the screenplay for District 10 is currently being written.
  • “Its coming,” he posted on Twitter.

District 9 fans, rejoice! A sequel to the hit 2009 sci-fi action film is currently in the works, according to Neil Blomkamp.

The director recently confirmed this on social media after tweeting that he, along with actor Sharlito Copley and co-writer Terri Tatchell, are now writing a screenplay for District 10.

“Its coming…”

As he posted on Twitter on Friday, February 26:

“District 10 screenplay also being written by @sharlto @terriatchell and I. Its coming…”

The sequel will be entitled District 10.

Blomkamp has often been asked by fans and the media about the follow-up to District 9 but having his hands full of other movie projects, finding time has always been challenging in the past.

Back in 2017, for example, he explained on Reddit:

“Ok, so with District 10 the basic answer is yes. I want to go back to that world and tell the rest of the story with Wikus and Christopher. The issue right now is that I have many other projects and ideas that I also want to work on and complete… and most importantly, the exact right reason to make District 10 needs be very clear. The first film was based so explicitly on real themes and topics from South Africa that affected me greatly growing up there, that we need to make sure the next film does not forget that.”

At some point, Blomkamp also signed up to direct the sequel for RoboCop entitled RoboCop Returns. In 2019, however, he said he has decided to step away from the project, tweeting:

“Off Robocop. I am shooting new horror/thriller and MGM can’t wait/need to shoot Robocop now. Excited to watch it in theaters with other fans.”
