If you think you’ve already seen the most bizarre fashion trends out there, you might want to think again. As we’ve recently seen in the New York Fashion Week, the craziest of the crazies in the world of fashion have just officially landed – vagina wigs.
Yes, folks, you’ve read that right and the photos below prove it. Models rocked the runway wearing wigs on their crotches that looked like punk-inspired spiky hair for the female private part.
It’s called a ‘merkin’ and it’s officially a thing now!
South Korean designer Kaimin is hoping merkins will “sprout their roots of high fashion, themed ‘Oriental Garden.’” The bushes, available in different colors and styles, have been paired with “striking eyeliner and futuristic clothing,” the site wrote.
A Kaiman press release tells us that the purpose behind the scandalous fashion item is “to assist irregular silhouettes” and “to bridge the gap of hard versus soft.”
Kaimin has previously worked with celebrities like Lady Gaga and Bjork.
In an interview, Prema Hair creative director Dale Delaporte explained the inspiration behind the unusual wigs by saying:
“Because the Kaimin collection has a huge central theme of pride in your body and your sexuality – although they are not mutually exclusive – we had a lot of freedom here.
“We really wanted to push the futuristic punk aesthetic of this seasons’ collection and having matching hair and merkins was perfect.
“We worked hard on figuring out the best way to get them made and to have them looking as natural as possible and the results speak for themselves!”
So is it yay or nay?
Fashion enthusiasts, we sincerely want to know what’s your take about the merkin. Also, we’re curious if there are any ladies out there who would really go wear these things. Do let us know in the comment section please!
