Robert Downey Jr. Surprises Disabled Fan with a Real “Iron Man” Bionic Arm

We’re giving you another reason to fall in love with Robert Downey Jr.

The Iron Man actor personally delivered a 3D-printed bionic arm to a young disabled fan, Alex, who was born with a deformed right hand. The 7-year-old boy was only the lucky recipient of the free Iron Man bionic arm but he also got to meet Tony Stark in person!

In perfect character, the actor spoke to the child like he was Tony Stark and even brought the bionic arms using Stark Industries suitcases! How amazing!

The actor wore his own bionic arm while Alex also donned his. As Tony Stark, Robert joked how his arms don’t always work as can be seen by the flickering lights on the one he was wearing but he was glad Alex’s bionic arm was working fine.

He also said he might hire Albert Manero, the Fulbright scholar and doctoral student who created Limbitless Solutions to provide 3D-printed limbs to disabled people, as the young PhD was able to create a cheap yet high-quality bionic arm for Alex.

The disabled boy received the Iron Man arm for free from Microsoft’s The Collective Project but it had cost a total of $350 (£235) to produce – much cheaper than the costs of “regular” ones: around $40,000 (£26,900).
