There is little doubt that Game of Thrones is one of the most well-known TV shows around the world. But it all started with a man named George R.R. Martin, who wrote the books that brought us to the lush and complicated kingdom of Westeros. The author of A Song Of Ice And Fire is known for interacting with fans on a regular basis. However, the heartwarming story about a special fan is truly one-of-a-kind.
Dan Fogelman is the writer and producer of the hit TV series This Is Us, which makes him no stranger to weaving lovely stories. However, the story that Fogelman shared about George R.R. Martin is based on real life. It involves his friend Alex Hanan, who was a huge fan of Game of Thrones. Amazingly, Alex got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hang out with Martin but that’s only the first part of his story.
Fogelman shared the story on the same day that ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8 premiered.
It begins with Fogelman getting ready to watch Bruce Springsteen’s Broadway show with his friend Alex last year. Alex had reportedly made it to the theater early and spotted Martin waiting as well. Although Fogelman begged Alex not to talk to the writer, his friend did so anyway.
Once Fogelman arrived at the theater, Alex confirms that he spoke to his idol and Martin had even given him his phone number so they can have pizza later. Amazingly, it doesn’t end there.
Now here comes the plot twist worthy of any Game of Thrones or This Is Us episode. Are you ready? Read on.
Although Alex is no longer with us, there is little doubt that his final year in life was truly a happy one, thanks to the man who gave us Game of Thrones.
Here is Alex with George R.R. Martin on that fateful night.
The final season of Game of Thrones airs on HBO every Sunday nights.
