Incredible Mom Gives Birth to 6 Babies – 3 Sets of Twins – in Only 9 Minutes

One mom gave birth to sextuplets at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas in the United States. She beat the odds of one in 4.7 billion, making the incident a national headline after she gave birth to six babies in just nine minutes.

Thelma Chiaka delivered two sets of twin boys and one set of twin girls between 4:50 am and 4:59 am local time Friday, March 15. The babies were all in stable condition, weighing between 1 lb. 12 oz. and 2 lbs. 14 oz. They were being cared for in the hospital’s advanced neonatal intensive care unit.

The hospital shared the startling news in a statement:

“The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, an HCA Houston Healthcare Affiliate, which delivers more babies than any other Texas hospital, early this morning welcomed sextuplets, the odds of which are estimated at one in 4.7 billion.

Two sets of twin boys and one set of twin girls were born this morning between 4:50 and 4:59 a.m.

The babies were born at weights ranging from one pound, 12 ounces and two pounds, 14 ounces. They are in stable condition and will continue to receive care in the hospital’s advanced neonatal intensive care unit.

The medical team of Dr. Ziad Haidar, Dr. Sharmeel Khaira and Dr. Israel Simchowitz say the mother, Thelma Chiaka, is doing well.”

The hospital also shared a photo of the newly famous mother and the delivery team, led by the three doctors.

Thelma, who looked very relieved and happy in the snap, has named her daughters Zina and Zuriel. She has not yet named the four boys.

Giving birth to sextuplets is quite rare. So when it happens, it’s quite big of a deal and becomes local news.

The most famous sextuplets of all were born to John and Kate Gosselin. The now-divorced couple even had a reality show called the “Jon & Kate Plus 8” to document their journey with their sextuplets and twins. However, the show was canceled in 2017.
