You probably think that drones are nothing but an expensive tool to help you get those amazing aerial shots for your vlogs. Drones also have a bad reputation since most people think that they could invade someone’s privacy. In fact, these human-controlled mini aircraft are banned in some places, especially in some urban areas.

However, you might be thanking drones in the future as they could potentially save your life one day. As you will see below, drones are set to accomplish some pretty cool things, too.

Applications for drones in scenarios that are just too dangerous for humans to navigate seem to grow broader with each passing day. As engineers find ways for flying drones to bear more weight, fly with more precision and use sensors for the greatest possible accuracy, the machines are able to take on more complex tasks.

A group of Chinese students designed a pretty cool and helpful concept. They transformed a regular quadcopter drone into a flying safety net, called the Net Guard.

The Net Guard could easily become one of the most essential tools for firefighters as it could pinpoint the location of the fire through GPS once a 999 call has been received. While traffic is the main hindrance of a traditional fire engine, the drone can go straight to the necessary building.

The net is sturdy enough to carry the weight of an average adult and is made from a quadruple layer of polyurethane.

But since the Net Guard is still at a concept stage, there is no available prototype for it yet. Still, the group has already earned $13,000 prize money for the concept.

Until they receive a significant financial boost, however, it will remain just an idea. What do you think about the Net Guard?
