The world is full of ruthless criminals overwhelming the news today. But despite this heartbreaking reality we are facing, there are still some people who do kind deeds and make us start having faith in humanity again.

As the night breaks in, a New Jersey-based woman faced possible danger when she ran out of gas in the middle of a highway on her way home. But the most unexpected man came to her rescue even if it means sacrificing all the money he has to make it through the week.

Kate McClure was driving on the I-95 interstate motorway in Philadelphia when she suddenly ran out of gas. She pulled over to check her tank but then realized she had no money with her for a refill. She was then approached by a homeless man named Johnny who, without second thoughts, helped her get home.

The man warned the 27-year-old lady that the area was unsafe and advised her to remain in the car with the doors locked. He then left her for a while and returned with a can of petrol which he filled using his last $20.

Johnny Bobbitt used his last $20 to buy a can of gas to fill in Kate’s empty tank.

Touched by the thoughtful act, Kate set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for him. With the inspiring story, donations flooded in with the amount quickly exceeding the initial $10,000 target. As of late, the donations already totals to $388,555.

Johnny is from Raleigh, N.C. area and has been homeless in Philadelphia for 1 and 1/2 year.

Kate wrote on the page she set up:

“I never ran out of gas before, and my heart was beating out of my chest. I pulled over as far as I could, and got out of the car to head to the nearest gas station.

That’s when I met Johnny. Johnny sits on the side of the road every day, holding a sign. He saw me pull over and knew something was wrong. He told me to get back in the car and lock the doors. A few minutes later, he comes back with a red gas can. Using his last 20 dollars to make sure I could get home safe.”

Kate has already donated $10,000 to 34-year-old Bobbitt and approximately 2,000 people had given charity to the campaign.

Since the incident, Kate has been visiting Johnny by the roadside and gave him a jacket, hat, a pair of gloves and warm socks, as well as a few dollars to pay him back for his kindness. She describes Johnny as a great guy and she’s hoping to do something to change his life. With the fundraising page she set up for the homeless man who offered his last money to save her from danger, Kate hopes to help Johnny get cash to rent an apartment, a vehicle, and cash to cover six months of living costs. She added:

“He is very interested in finding a job, and I believe that with a place to be able to clean up every night and get a good night’s rest, his life can get back to being normal.

Please help this man get into a home. It is already getting so cold out in Philadelphia, and I can’t imagine what it will be like to be out there all winter.”
