‘Game Of Thrones’ Fan Notices Daenerys’ Biggest Scenes Resemble Nazi Propaganda

People are undoubtedly unhappy with the sudden change in Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones Season 8. The Mother of Dragons went from being the Breaker of Chains to Breaker of Hearts as she decided to burn down King’s Landing and announce that she intends to rule the world. However, one fan says that Dany’s tyrannical plot twist may have been foreshadowed a long time ago. Interestingly, they have noticed that most of Dany’s biggest scenes in the HBO series somehow resemble Nazi propaganda.

Tumblr user FedonCiadale pointed out that almost all of Daenerys’ biggest scenes in Game of Thrones bear a striking resemblance to the works of Leni Riefenstahl. The German filmmaker is known for directing Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will) and Der Sieg des Glaubens (The Victory of Faith), which are well-known Nazi propaganda films.

Say what you will, but this shot is simply stunning.

One of the biggest moments in Game of Thrones was Daenerys emerging from the ashes of Khal Drogo’s funeral pyre with a tiny Drogon perched on her shoulder. Interestingly, the poster for Der Sieg des Glaubens features a man with an eagle spreading its wings behind him in a similar manner.

The post also pointed out that Daenerys’ tendency towards tyranny has been shown since the start but viewers were led to root for her because of the triumphant visuals.

“Visuals are part of the foreshadowing. It did not come out of nowhere and it was always a major plot point – as has been argued by book readers for ages. That Dany blew up King’s Landing was always to be the culmination of her arc. And it was always meant to hit you in the gut. So, as you do nicely put it : get your head out of your a– and realise that you have been duped. And ponder about why? Was it because Dany is beautiful? Was it because she had the occasional bouts of benevolence? Was it because you thought she was entitled to an ugly chair because she suffered? Was it because she was set up against people coded as villains, so that you don’t care about how she defeated them? Was it because she is a woman and woman can’t be evil?”

There is certainly some compelling evidence here. However, it is important to point out that the same shots are usually seen when showing heroic figures. Either way, Game of Thrones chose to glorify Daenerys only to reveal that she was meant to be the true villain all this time.
