Myanmar is one Asian country tourists swear to be an underrated vacation spot. The nation was once like the beautiful Thailand from 25 years ago when shopping chains were not in the area yet and most of the land and beaches were untouched. However, things are starting to change around Myanmar as investors are considering developing the land to keep up with the demands by tourists.

That said, the stunning Myanmar could soon lose its pristine beauty once the country becomes mainstream. This year could be the perfect year for you to visit Myanmar and here are five reasons why.

1. Your trip can be affordable.

If you like to go on a Southeast Asian holiday without having to break the bank, visiting Myanmar should be on the top of your travel list. Although prices of some items have increased due to the sudden spike in tourist visits, there are still hostels that are budget-friendly. When it comes to meals, you can still enjoy traditional food at around $2.50.

2. Marvel at the magnificence of the Bagan temple complex.

The old city of Bagan is home to a temple complex that is truly a sight to behold. Sometime between the 11th and 13th centuries, there were more than 10,000 Buddhist temples, monasteries and pagodas erected in the Bagan plains and 2200 of these temples’ remains still survive to this day. The Bagan temples are waiting to be explored – what’s more fun is that getting around the temple complex can be done only by bike or on foot.

The ancient temples in Bagan are best viewed from above and what more exciting way to do it than to be on board a hot-air balloon. The hot-air balloons in Bagan were started by Australian Brett Melzer and his wife, Khin Omar Win, who was born in Yangon. If you have a fear of heights, you still might want to catch the breathtaking scene of having red balloons populate the skyline early in the morning.

Myanmar has everything you need if you like to have the perfect Southeast Asian holiday. There’s already plenty of development in the country, especially in the tourism department but it’s not like you will spot backpacker’s lodge and hostels in every corner of the street. Still, people can be so accommodating that the most important thing you will remember about Myanmar is just how splendid this place can be.
