Planking is fast becoming one of the top favorite exercises for fitness enthusiast. Besides, it is easy to perform, does not require any special equipment plus you can do it anytime, anywhere.

Well, sure, you can scratch the word “easy” since, during your first attempts, planking for even less than a minute can be quite agonizing. Believe me, I’ve tried it.

That’s why we can’t help but admire this police officer from China who just made it to the Guinness World Records for his exceptional planking skills.

Mao Weidong, a policeman from China, set a world record of 8 hours, 1 minute, and 1 second at the 2016 Plank World Cup.

During the 2016 Plank World Cup held at the Shangrila Hotel in Beijing, China, Mao Weidong managed to defeat former record holder George Wood in a one-on-one competition. Mao stayed in the planking position for 8 hours, 1 minute, and 1 second. Wood, on the other hand, collapsed after 7 hours, 4 minutes, and 5 seconds.

Mao said his daily strength training as a police helped him a lot.

According to Mao, his work as a cop was a big help for him.

“Actually, as Special Weapons And Tactics police, we have lots of strength training every day.”

George Wood, the former record holder, only endured planking for 7 hours, 4 minutes, and 5 seconds.

Mao said he hopes more people would get into planking “for fitness and better physique.”
