A police car chase in Kentucky has recently caught the public’s attention after it ended in a very unexpected way. As seen in the actual bodycam footage that has since gone viral online, police officers surrounded a vehicle, holding their weapons and instructing the driver to get out.

Apparently, officers were after a 41-year-old woman named Latrece Curry and they chased her across two counties. According to reports, she fled their home following a domestic dispute with her husband. She was eventually tracked by authorities and they finally cornered her in a car park.

An unexpected ending to a wild car chase

Fortunately, Chief James Richardson was able to de-escalate the tension as he approached her and gave her a hug. He shared:

“I got to the driver’s side door and told her to unlock the door, she had her hands up, she was shaking like a leaf. I mean the poor girl, when I opened the door it was like a look of sheer terror. She was scared to death.”

Richardson immediately placed his gun back in the holster and comforted Curry.

“She was shaking so bad she couldn’t get her seatbelt off, so I helped her get her seatbelt off,” he continued. “I didn’t perceive her as a threat, she didn’t have any weapons. I took control of her hands, she started crying. She reached out and hugged me and I just kind of hugged her back.”

Richardson also added:

“She didn’t know what she was doing and she was extremely sorry. She had no criminal record to speak of, had never been in trouble that I know of. She just made a really bad choice… With everything going on in the world today, everybody makes mistakes.”
