Released back in 1994, Forrest Gump was an award-winning comedy-drama movie inspired by a 1986 novel written by Winston Groom. The heartwarming film featured Tom Hanks as the title character along with his co-stars Robin Wright, Gary Sinise, Mykelti Williamson, and Sally Field.

Now Forrest Gump is set to hit the big screen once more – but in Bollywood form! According to recent reports, Indian actor Aamir Khan has announced that he is going to star in an official remake of the film.

Khan shared he will be playing the role of Laal Singh Chaddha, who is based on Tom Hank’s character.

In an interview with reporters during his 54th birthday celebration, Khan said:

“I have always loved Forrest Gump as a script. It is a life-affirming story. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family.”

Forrest Gump was about a “slow-witted” but kindhearted man from Alabama who “has never thought of himself as disadvantaged, and thanks to his supportive mother, he leads anything but a restricted life,” the movie’s official synopsis says. The film was a massive box office success and earned several Oscars including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, Best Director for Robert Zemeckis and Best Actor for Hanks.

Meanwhile, Khan is a respected personality in India’s entertainment industry, having established his reputation not only as a versatile actor but also as a director and filmmaker. Some of his popular movies include Taare Zameen Par (Every Child Is Special), Ghajini, 3 Idiots, Dhoom 3, and Dangal, among others.

Khan said they have already bought Forrest Gump’s rights from Paramount and they will start filming by October. Now he’s aiming to lose 20kg as he prepares to play the role. “I have to be lean and slim,” he pointed out.

At this point, only one question remains: Will the new Forrest Gump movie have song and dance numbers? We’re willing to bet the answer is a resounding ‘yes’!
