Walt Disney Studios has decided to change their mind after firing James Gunn from the Marvel Studios film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The company has just reinstated Gunn as director of the highly anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.

Gunn was removed from the project in July 2018 after his old Twitter posts were found to be offensive as he allegedly made fun of child abuse and sexual assault. Disney put the third Guardians of the Galaxy film on hold after the director was fired. However, Disney has since decided to reinstate Gunn just nine months after the firing.

Gunn was reinstated after Walt Disney chairman Alan Horn has persuaded to reconsider the firing. According to reports, Horn decided to rehire Gunn because he was impressed with how the director handled the situation and made a public apology for his actions.

Interestingly, other reports have pointed out that Disney and Marvel did not look for a replacement director to take over Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It is believed that Gunn was only temporarily fired and that he would be reinstated as soon as the issue faded away.

Gunn is certainly happy to be back. The director posted a tweet thanking all his supporters, especially the cast and crew of Guardians of the Galaxy who stood by him during the difficult period.

Needless to say, people are delighted that Gunn will continue working on GotG V3. His fellow MCU director Taika Waititi, who had worked on Thor: Ragnarok and was a fan-favorite to take over the project, had a hilarious reaction to Gunn’s reinstatement.

Gunn has previously been confirmed to write and direct the DC Extended Universe film Suicide Squad 2. This means he will be working on two different comic book movies in the next few years.
