Some animals are just so much nicer than people. A beluga whale proved this when it dove down to save a phone that was accidentally dropped into the ocean. The sweet mammal then returned it to the woman who had dropped it from the dock.
The video was captured by Ina Mansika and her friends when they headed for Hammerfest, Norway in search of the beluga. The group were clearly so excited about the idea of spotting the whale that Mansika dropped her phone into the waters. However, an unlikely hero came to save the day. The beluga they have been hoping to see actually went underwater to look for the gadget and promptly returned it to the ecstatic Mansika.
Watch the awesome phone-saving video below:
Mansika explained how she ended up dropping her phone in the water.
“We laid down on the dock to look at [the beluga] and hopefully get the chance to pat it,” Mansika said. “I had forgotten to close my jacket pocket and my phone fell in the ocean. We assumed it would be gone forever, until the whale dove back down and came back a few moments later with my phone in its mouth!”
The group was delighted with the beluga’s kind actions.
“Everyone was so surprised. We almost didn’t believe what we saw,” Mansika said. “I was super happy and thankful that I got my phone back.”
The beluga has certainly proven that it is a smart and kind creature. However, his appearance in Hammerfest was initially met with skepticism. The whale had originally shown up in the area wearing a harness that led to speculations that it was trained by the Russian Navy.
The beluga says hello to one of the fishermen that removed its harness.
We may never know just how the beluga ended up with a harness and made its way to Norway but Mansika is clearly happy that the whale helped get her phone back.
“I love animals!” she said. “The whale is so kind.”
