Rescue Dog Finally Sees His Family Again After a Successful Eye Surgery

Dogs feel frightened when they can’t see—it’s a fact my family and I experienced first-hand when one of our babies lost his sight due to a complication brought about by an illness. He howled and cried in one corner as he waited for one of us to touch him, to reassure him that he’s not alone.

It was a heartbreaking scene, and it’s something you wouldn’t want your beloved pups to go through.

That thought came to my mind when I read about a rescue dog named Duffy.

Duffy is an eight-year-old Irish terrier.

He’s had a lot of health problems including canine diabetes, which took a toll on his eyes and left him blind.

“It broke my heart seeing this dog I grew up with, who I see as a very good friend…running into things, not being able to recognize me……just struggling,” Benjamin May, who posted the video below, wrote on Reddit.

His compassionate family couldn’t bear to see him suffer, so they brought Duffy to the Veterinary Referral Center in Malvern, Pennsylvania to receive treatment. There, the doctors stabilized his blood sugar and prepared him for surgery to restore his sight.

Fortunately, the procedure was a success!

Mr. May wrote:

“It literally brings tears to my eyes every time I watch it, as much as I love it I just wish I could have been there. I’m just so thankful for my parents for taking care of him like this.

“I can only imagine what went through his mind that one day it went black…..and then suddenly he can see everyone again….. I can’t wait to get home over Christmas so my dog can see me for the first time in two years.”

The surgery cost them $5,000.

“I know most people will that that was a waste of money but whatever. He’s happy and he makes us happy, he’s family to us, you can’t put a price on family,” he said.

I couldn’t agree more, Mr. May.
