  • Filipino educator Adie Isidro wrote an open letter for Ryan Kaji of Ryan’s World YouTube channel.
  • She spoke about the importance of waste disposal and recycling.
  • Isidro likewise shared that she feels bad for poor kids who get to watch his videos but may “not have enough money” to buy the featured toys.

Ryan Kaji isn’t just 2020’s highest-paid YouTuber, he’s also among the most influential person on the video platform. Formerly known as Ryan’s Toy Review, his Ryan’s World channel now has almost 28 million subscribers, with viewers from all over the world watching his videos.

Now an educator from the Philippines has taken it upon herself to write an open letter for the young social media star, raising a few suggestions for future content. Adie Isidro posted the said letter on her Facebook wall and even sent it to Ryan via email.

Adie Isidro the educator who wrote an open letter for Ryan’s World YouTube channel.

Isidro began by congratulating Ryan on his success, adding that her 6-year-old niece is a big fan. She continued by talking about the importance of being an example when it comes to proper waste disposal.

Isidro wrote:

Dear Ryan’s Toy Review,

Greetings from the Philippines!

First, thank you for your videos and congratulations on your success. My 6-year-old niece has been a fan of Ryan for almost 4 years now, and she definitely enjoys all your videos. She watches your videos in most of her waking hours (and I guess, many kids around the world would be doing the same thing). She sometimes thinks that Ryan is her best friend, and her older cousins would sometimes pretend to be Ryan in Zoom calls.

On the other hand, I would like to make two requests, as a concerned adult.

Like Loann, I am a teacher and it really bothers me to think where all the plastic wrappers that you would dispose of, after opening up the toys and gifts, go. I would think that many of the stuff that you would feature in your videos are sponsored, but I guess, it would really mean a lot, if you also help the parents of your viewers by teaching them how to dispose of their trash properly and not waste too much. Maybe, you can also promote reusing or recycling some plastic containers in your merch (I just found out that your electric toothbrush is not rechargeable and its bristles are not replaceable).

Also, I think, parents would also appreciate it if you also feature how you teach/guide your kids to care for people outside your family or outside your circle. There’s too much poverty in the world, and it doesn’t really help if all the kids who are watching your videos would just be led to think that they must have all the toys that they see Ryan is playing with. I can’t help but think of poor families who would have access to your videos, but would not have enough money to buy the toys that you feature. And I feel for them.

I am thinking that since Ryan is very influential among kids, perhaps, you can use his impact on kids to promote care for others and care for the earth. I don’t know how you will do this, but I trust that you will be able to come up with something.
Looking forward to your response and action on these requests before we totally lose our common home and before we lose our concern for others in how we guide the future generation.

I hope that your family stays healthy and well during this pandemic.

Sincerely,
Adie

“There’s too much poverty in the world.”

“Maybe, you can also promote reusing or recycling some plastic containers in your merch,” she also mentioned, pointing out that Ryan’s electric toothbrush isn’t rechargeable and has non-replaceable bristles.”

The educator continued, saying “There’s too much poverty in the world and it doesn’t really help if all the kids who are watching your videos would just be led to think that they must have all the toys that they see Ryan is playing with. I can’t help but think of poor families who would have access to your videos, but would not have enough money to buy the toys that you feature. And I feel for them.”

Isidro’s letter has since been picked up by the local media but as of this writing, Ryan and his family has not responded yet.
