Pfizer And Moderna Vaccines May Be More Effective Than We Thought, Says Israel Health Data

  • The Ministry of Health in Israel shared some “very encouraging” data about their vaccination efforts.
  • Last January 28, it has been reported that out of more than 700,000 individuals who have received two doses, only 0.4% ended up contracting Covid-19.
  • The country is using Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines.

Israel’s Ministry of Health recently released data implying that Covid-19 vaccine brands such as Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna are possibly way more effective than earlier reported.

According to reports, the new data was based on information gathered from over 700,000 vaccinated individuals in the country. Out of that figure, only 0.4% eventually contracted the virus, said public health services chief Dr Sharon Alroy-Preis.

A January 28 data said that out of 715,425 people vaccinated with the second dose, 317 people fell ill and only 16 ended up being hospitalized.

For the most part, Israel used Pfizer/BioNTech for their vaccination efforts, along with a small number of doses from Moderna.

Data has been “very encouraging,” experts shared.

Infectious diseases specialist Professor Eyal Leshem said:

“The initial findings are quite incredible. After one dose, the cases fell substantially and after two, there were just 0.4 per cent. Time will tell, we still need to accumulate data but these are very encouraging preliminary reports.”

So far, over 30% of the country’s population has been vaccinated.

Leshem likewise pointed out:

“On one hand, we’re seeing very high community transmission rates with 1,000s of cases every day – the highest rates we’ve experienced since the beginning of the outbreak. But when we look specifically at these hundreds of thousands of Israelis that are vaccinated, they don’t get infected.

“And even in those few cases that get infected, they experience a mild disease – only a handful need to go to the hospital, only a handful experienced severe disease and needed to be admitted to the hospital.”

“It’s what we call real life, ecologic evidence of vaccine efficacy – the high efficacy of the vaccine,” he emphasized.
