  • Starting this August, Walmart will be turning 160 of their parking lots into drive-in movie theaters.
  • This will allow movie goers to enjoy watching films while maintaining social distancing at the same time.
  • The retail company is working with Tribeca Entertainment for this project.

In collaboration with Tribeca Enterprises, American retail giant Walmart has announced that they will be converting 160 of their stores’ parking lots into drive-in theaters this summer. This way, people who miss watching movies can do it again without violating social distancing measures that remains in force in many states because of the pandemic.

According to the company’s official website, Walmart will “roll out the red carpet experience” to parking lots across the country starting this August. The drive-in theaters is scheduled to feature “a combined 320 showings” and will run until October.

Drive-in cinemas are making a grand comeback at Walmart’s parking spaces.

Tribeca CEO and Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal shared:

“Drive-Ins have been a signature program for Tribeca since we started the Tribeca Film Festival 19 years ago after 9/11. But now, the Tribeca Drive-In is much more than a fun, retro way to see movies — it’s one of the safest ways for communities to gather. We are thrilled to partner with Walmart to bring more people together around the shared cinematic experiences that Tribeca is known for.”

Now you can enjoy your films while social distancing with other movie-goers.

In a press release, Walmart also said:

“This family-friendly night will include hit movies, special appearances from filmmakers and celebrities, and concessions delivered right to customer vehicles.”

So far, details have yet to be revealed regarding the dates, locations, and movie titles for this project.
