Most of us can’t live without coffee. Our productivity depends on having enough cups of brew to get us through the day. The real coffee lovers consume more than a cup a day. Just like other things in excess, drinking loads of coffee can result to problems on our health and wallet.

If you are hopelessly dependent on your coffee fix, chances are you have one or more of these common problems. Fortunately, we have tips on how to fix them.

1. Stomach aches

If you find yourself rushing to the bathroom after drinking a cup or two, you may have a problem with the coffee –
or the milk that comes with it. For some people, caffeine is more than a stimulant; it can also cause bloating and cramping. You can avoid this problem by eating before drinking coffee. If you take milk with your coffee and you experience stomach problems, you may be lactose intolerant. Try drinking your coffee black instead and see the difference.

2. Nervousness and anxiety

Not all people can drink all the coffee they want. Some experience the jitters if they drink more than they normally do or if they drink a stronger brew. Too much coffee can make you nervous, anxious, and shaky. Try limiting yourself to one or two a day if you experience this.

3. Bad breath

There’s a reason why some coffee shops sell mints and gum – drinking coffee affects the quality of your breath. Chew on these in order to avoid coffee breath. You may be tempted to brush your teeth, but avoid doing so right after you finish your brew. You have to wait at least 30 minutes before you brush your teeth in order to protect your teeth enamel.

4. Stained teeth

It’s common among coffee lovers to have teeth stains, thanks to pigments called chromogens which attach to the outer part of the teeth enamel. You can use special teeth-whitening toothpastes to counter the problem or you can visit your dentist to have your teeth thoroughly cleaned.

5. Budget problems

Let’s face it, not all of us can afford to go to Starbucks daily without creating a dent in our budgets. Try adding the cash you spend everyday on coffee and you will be surprised how much money that is. Go for cheaper coffee and make do with the free brew at the office pantry. You can also invest on a coffee maker so you can make your own instead.
