  • The live-action film based on the Sega game had initially been mocked for its creepy version of Sonic the Hedgehog.
  • The backlash was so overwhelming that Paramount Pictures decided to delay the movie’s release so they could redesign the lead character.
  • Amazingly, the new Sonic has been unveiled in a new trailer and he looks pretty awesome.

There was a time in April when Paramount Pictures unveiled the trailer for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie. Unfortunately, the speedy game character’s look was so different from the original that people demanded that he should get a major redesign. Luckily, the studio listened and has fixed the problem. Now Sonic’s improved look has just been unveiled in the film’s awesome new trailer.

In the first trailer, fans were shocked to see that Sonic’s eyes were smaller and wider apart. In addition to that, he appeared to have gloveless human hands and too many teeth. Overall, the strange new look creeped people out, causing a major backlash as everyone called for a major overhaul on the hedgehog’s look.

The original (and creepy) Sonic …
… And the new and improved Sonic!

It didn’t take long before director Jeff Fowler made an announcement that Sonic the Hedgehog will be redesigned according to people’s demands. Unfortunately, this also meant that the film would be moved back to 2020 although it was already scheduled for release in November 2019. Nevertheless, it looks like the movie is now worth the wait.

Fans were relieved to see the awesome redesign.

The redesign finally gives fans a Sonic that looks exactly like the classic character we know and love from the game. In addition to that, the trailer hints at a slight change in the storyline so it focuses more on the hedgehog and less on the humans around him.

Dr. Robotnik can’t believe how good Sonic looks, either.

If you’re wondering, there is still plenty of Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik to go around. Overall, fans are loving the redesign and are already looking forward to watching the movie.

Sonic the Hedgehog also stars James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, Adam Pally, and Neal McDonough. Parks and Recreation star Ben Schwartz provides the voice of Sonic. The film is scheduled for release on February 14, 2020.
