  • Ellume CEO and founder Sean Parsons has created a home testing kit for coronvirus.
  • The said product can yield results in 15 minutes and will soon be available over-the-counter in pharmacies across the United States.

A doctor from Australia has come up with a way to make Covid-19 testing much faster. Now his medical tech company Ellume has attracted the attention of the United States, the coronavirus pandemic’s worst-hit country.

The revolutionary testing kit is about the same size as a home pregnancy kit and will soon be available in pharmacies across the US.

Now anyone can have their Covid-19 test results in just 15 minutes.

“We’re making the first product that’s headed for the US. So it is an important day.” said Dr Sean Parsons.

Ellume’s official website tells us that the test is “suitable for ages 2+ years and will be available for non-prescription home use in the U.S.”

The kit allows people, with and without symptoms, to find out if they have been infected by the virus.

The package contains “a sterile Nasal Swab, a Dropper, Processing Fluid, and a Bluetooth connected Analyzer for use with an App on the user’s smartphone.”

As of this writing, Washington’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already given the emergency use approval for the single-use kits.

The company is currently aiming to manufacture up to 100,000 kits per day.

Parsons pointed out:

“The objective is to diagnose as many people as possible — millions of people with coronavirus — to enable and encourage them to reduce the transmission within the community.”

Stephen Hahn, commissioner of FDA, described Parson’s product as a “major milestone,” adding “by authorizing a test for over-the-counter use, the FDA allows it to be sold in places like drug stores, where a patient can buy it, swab their nose, run the test and find out their results.”
