We’ve all done crazy things when drunk. Usually, these are things we would rather forget, because…cringe. But if you have done something like what Thomas Dodd did when he had one glass of champagne too many – he legally changed his name to Celine Dion. Yes, after the diva herself.

The 30-year-old lad from the UK was having quite a boozefest while he was watching a TV concert featuring Celine on Christmas Eve. He is admittedly a super fan of the 52-year-old Canadian singer. He said that Celine is “my go-to person I listen to when I need cheering up.”

The then Thomas revealed that he watched so many concerts during the pandemic, including one by Celine during the holiday. His binge then was accompanied by a magnum of Champagne given to him by a friend.

As he was watching the show, he applied for an official name change via an online application, paying 89 pounds (about $122). Because he was tipsy, the details have become fuzzy for him. He swears that he doesn’t even remember doing it.

It was not until days later when he came home from work and found an envelope with documents waiting for him.

“I wasn’t aware I had done it until I found that envelope in my post. Initially, I had to sit down as I couldn’t believe it — so I then checked my bank which confirmed it all,” he says.

Once his deed sunk in, he signed the document straight away because he “bloody love her.”

He updated his name on social media to reflect the change and shared pictures of his “change of name deed” on Twitter. It shows his old signature and the new one for the field marked “MR CELINE DION.”

As expected, the press swamped him when the news came out.

“I currently have paparazzi camped outside,” he exclaimed, adding a laughing-while-crying emoji.

He also said that his inbox “is full of Celine Dion fans asking me to record them a video message!”

At first, his mother was not amused at all about the name change.

“My mother wasn’t best pleased at first, but now she sees the funny side! My friends have said they are not surprised! It was only a few week[s] back I hired an Elsa [from ‘Frozen’] tribute to perform on my driveway for me when I was drunk because I was bored! Anything is possible!”

The now-Mr. Celine Dion said that his name change will go on and that he’s keeping it.

He also expressed his wish to meet his namesake, whom he last saw in concert in 2019. He is currently working with a UK radio station to see if they can make it happen.
