Ladies, tell us if this sounds familiar: You are so engrossed with work-related stuff and then you suddenly start fantasizing about how nice it would be to go on a weekend getaway with your buddies.

Just as you catch yourself in the middle of that, you cut the thought off and remind yourself you can’t go on a leave because, well, you’re too busy. It just isn’t a realistic goal at the moment.

Sounds like the story of your life, you say? Well according to science, you really should take the time to go out on a vacation – for your own good. Besides, a new study tells us that relaxing with friends is important to stay happy and healthy.

As Harvard‘s Women Health Watch blog pointed out, a rich social life is as essential to one’s physical and mental wellbeing as adequate sleep and good diet.

Meanwhile, another study tells us that the body’s oxytocin levels increase as we have fun, meaningful bonding time with our friends. Oxytocin, an article explained, is the “substance that reduces feelings such as anxiety, stress, and tiredness in the body.”

This means that the more oxytocin we have in our bodies, the more we become happier and healthier as individuals.

In a Shareably feature, psychologist William Chopik of the Michigan State University put it this way:

“Keeping a few really good friends around can make a world of difference for our health and well-being. So, it’s smart to invest in the friendships that make you happiest.”

So yes, going on that trip with your friends is definitely worth it. Whether you are single or married, you really should make arrangements to ensure that you take some time off away from your work table. That way, you can rest, relax, and simply ‘recharge’ with your besties, so to speak. Again, it’s good for both your health and emotions!
