  • Benjy Fish is ranked among the world’s best Fortnite gamers.
  • The 15-year-old quit school to become a full-time player, as suggested by his own mom.
  • He managed to earn £25,000 (US$31,562.13) since turning professional.

Video games are more addictive than ever. While heavy gaming, particularly in boys, can be a warning signal for parents, not everyone who plays many hours a day is at risk for problems. In fact, one teen got more than just eye bags playing his favorite game.

Benjy Fish may be young but he is already considered as one of the best Fortnite gamers in the world. The 15-year-old boy decided to quit school to play games full-time and has managed to earn £25,000 (US$31,562.13) since February of this year.

He said:

My mom didn’t think I was all that good at it at first until I woke her up in the middle of the night to say I’d won £10,000 (US$12,624.85) in an online competition against the top players in Europe.”

It didn’t take long before mom suggested that he switch to homeschooling instead. Because of that, Benjy can now play until four in the morning and wake up at two in the afternoon. He has tutors to visit him “to fit in my GCSE work, which I’m going to split over three years instead of the usual two.”

And it’s turned out to be a wise career option for the young teen. Benjy Fish has guaranteed himself another £50,000 (US$63,124.25) by qualifying for this year’s Fortnite World Cup, which boasts a prize pool of £23million (US$29,037,155.00).

The young gamer has qualified for the solos and duos finals. If he manages to win the top prize, he will be taking home roughly £4 million (US$5,049,940.00).

If he wins, he says he plans to use the money to buy a house for himself and his single mother.
