Why You Should NEVER Sleep With Your Cell Phone Under a Pillow

We are now in the era of smartphones, in which people are constantly seen with their handheld devices. Wherever people go and whatever they do, there’s always a smartphone in their hand. If a person could marry his or her smartphone, some would’ve already done it.

But this technology also has some of its downsides. For instance, some people have become obsessed with taking hundreds of selfies each day that the behavior has been recognized as a mental disorder by the American Psychiatric Association.

Because of how people are so consumed with their devices, social relationships have also been affected. I’ve seen a lot of couples dating in a coffee shop or at some fast food chain but they are so preoccupied with their phones, most of the time during their dates, they just look down on their screens. Whatever happened to real, face-to-face communication?

People also tend to sleep with their phones because either they need the phone close so they can easily pick it up first thing in the morning or they just fell asleep with the device. But alarmingly, doing so has grave consequences.

NYPD 33rd Precinct recently released a set of photos showing how dangerous sleeping with your phone can be. Just refer to the image below so you can get a clearer idea what the officers at the precinct meant.

‘Don’t put your cellphone under a pillow when sleeping or when charging your device. Please share this tip and be safe,’ warned the NYPD 33rd Precint.

It wasn’t stated where the photo was taken or when this happened, but Gothamist gathered that the same incident happened to a teenaged girl in Texas a few years ago.
