Crazy Norway Landslide Sweeps Away 8 Houses Into The Sea

A massive landslide has recently swept away several homes into the sea.in northern Norway .The tragic incident happened last Wednesday in Alta, a municipality in the Troms og Finnmar county.

According to reports, officials were alerted about a “big clay slide,” said Anders Bjordal, engineer for the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate. The slide measured 650 meters wide and 150 meter deep and swept eight buildings and cabins in the area. Fortunately, the police have reported no injuries or missing persons following a search-and-rescue operation.

“There has never been a slide that big” in Alta, said Bjordal.

Jan Egil Bakkeby, one of the owners of a holiday cabin, shared that he “heard a crack in the cabin” and so he immediately fled.

He also told the media:

“At first, I thought there was someone in the attic, but then I saw out the window that the power cord was smoking and then I saw that it was raining.

“I rushed out and fled up the mountainside where I saw it all from a distance […] You can basically say that I ran for my life.”

As of this writing, the exact cause of the slide still remains unknown.

However, the authorities have assured the public that they are observing the land, sea, and sea level to determine if there are any possible movements in the near future. Additionally, they will also start conducting soil measurements soon.
