  • Sacha Baron Cohen has confirmed he will not be returning as Borat for a third movie.

  • For now, his plan is to “stay with scripted stuff.”

Borat fans, here’s some unfortunate news: actor Sacha Baron Cohen has announced that he will not be returning for a third movie. According to the comedian, filming the sequel has gotten “too dangerous” for him so he has opted to bow out for another one.

The Borat Subsequent Moviefilm was released in 2020 – 14 years after the first one – and became one of the highlights of the year. The plot revolved around “Kazakh funnyman Borat risking his life and limb” as he came back to America after being “released from prison for bringing shame to his country.”

Of course, the movie attracted a lot of attention as it discussed controversial topics using irreverent humor.

In a media interview while promoting The Trial of the Chicago 7, Baron Cohen shared why he has no plans of returning as the character.

“Because it got too dangerous,” he admitted. “Chicago 7 had its own challenges. You know, you’re working with some of the best actors in the world – two of them in front of you here – but for Borat, there were a couple of times I had to put on a bulletproof vest to go and shoot a scene, and you don’t want to do that too many times in your life.”

Baron Cohen likewise pointed out:

“I was pretty lucky to get out this time, so no, I’m not doing it again. I’m going to stay with the scripted stuff.”

Back in October 2020, the actor also shared a video of him being chased by gun-carrying protesters while shooting the sequel.

“This was not the easiest movie to make,” he wrote on Twitter.
