  • Xavier Javern Cummings, 33, stole not one, but two police vehicles in Florida, leading to a wild chase with authorities.
  • He ended up getting cornered by cops and he will soon be facing multiple charges.
  • According to reports, Cummings “took a police car with arms” so they considered the case as “high risk.”

A man in Florida recently made headlines after stealing two police cars and leading the cops on a wild chase that spanned two counties. Eventually, officers were able to corner and arrest 33-year-old Xavier Javern Cummings. He has since been locked in jail without bond.

According to reports, the chase began in Cocoa, Florida after the the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office was alerted about someone stealing a patrol sedan. The suspect apparently drove the vehicle off Interstate 95 where it ended up getting stuck in the woods.

However, things did not end there as Cummings stole another Cocoa car – an SUV – and then again drove northwards.

In an official statement from the Volusia office, we read:

“After units along I-95 successfully deployed stop sticks, the suspect again ran off the highway and into a muddy median around the 258 mile marker.”

This time around, authorities successfully captured Cummings.

“Nobody got hurt. Nobody got killed. Every police officer and deputy went home safe,” Volusia Sheriff Michael J. Chitwood later told the media. “The bad guy went to jail safe. And no innocent person got hurt.”

“We typically don’t engage in pursuit unless it’s a high-risk felony,” said Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez. “And, in this particular case, he took a police car with arms in it so that would be considered high risk.”

Cummings will be facing numerous charges including armed burglary, escape, fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, two counts of firearm possession by a convicted felon, two counts of grand theft firearm, two counts of grand theft motor vehicle, and driving with a suspended license.
