Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s Wife Tested Positive Of Coronavirus

  • Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie, has tested positive of the coronavirus.
  • As per advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister will not be tested of the virus but will be in isolation for 14 days.
  • Reports said he will govern the country from home for now.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s wife, Sophie, has tested positive of the coronavirus after attending a speaking engagement at the WE U.K Day Conference in London. According to reports, she acquired only a “mild flu-like symptoms” following the event.

Canadian health authorities said that they are now tracking down all people she have been contact with in the U.K and back in Canada. So far, since professing only “mild” symptoms, Sophie will remain in isolation. Her husband, on the other hand, does not exhibit any symptoms.

“She is feeling well, is taking all the recommended precautions and her symptoms remain mild,” the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement reported by Canada-owned media CBC News.

In her Facebook page, Sophie thanked those who expressed concern and assured that  she will be back on her feet soon.

“Although I’m experiencing uncomfortable symptoms of the virus, I will be back on my feet soon. Being in quarantine at home is nothing compared to other Canadian families who might be going through this and for those facing more serious health concerns,” she said.

The Prime Minister meanwhile will also isolate himself for 14 days and is governing Canada from home. The Prime Minister’s Office assured that Trudeau is healthy and not exhibiting any symptoms.

His office also said that as per the advice of his doctors, he will not be tested of the virus, following being asymptomatic.

“For the same reason, doctors say there is no risk to those who have been in contact with him recently,” his office assured.

When Sophie was in London, Trudeau has been in Ottawa the whole week, holding conference with his cabinet ministers and lawmakers. The Prime Minister also joined the debates in the legislature and held a media conference.

So far, Canadian health authorities have reported that Canada has 200 confirmed cases of coronavirus, including 1 death.
