We have a lot of beliefs when it comes to being healthy. Most of these beliefs come from experiences, and some were just word of mouth.

However, not all “healthy habits” we believe in are actually true. Case in point, here are 10 rules of a healthy lifestyle that don’t really work.

1. Sleeping for more than 7 hours

It has been proven that all you need is 7 hours of sleep to function well. That’s one hour less than what we initially believed.

2. Having a big breakfast

Breakfast is the important meal of the day. Although that is still very true, not all people are supposed to eat a big breakfast because not everyone has the same specific needs. Some cannot stand having a full stomach in the morning, so a glass of water could be enough to survive until brunch or lunch time.

3. Morning jog

If you don’t feel better in the morning or you don’t have enough energy to jog, then you don’t have to. You will still get the same results and benefits when you jog at night.

4. Taking out sweets from your daily diet completely

When we think of sweets, we automatically think of something unhealthy and fattening. However, you shouldn’t completely eliminate sweets in your diet as they contain glucose, which is helpful for a healthy brain.

5. Hard training

You may have heard the line, “If your body doesn’t ache the next morning, it means you didn’t properly work out.” Well, that’s not exactly true. Muscle soreness doesn’t really mean that you had an amazing workout, it could actually mean you have a muscle tissue injury.

6. Skipping water during meals

Water is very essential, not only when you’re thirsty but also during meals. It is important for your digestive system to function properly.

7. Forcing self to eat

We are so used to eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner that we sometimes force ourselves to eat even if we’re not hungry. If you’re hungry, eat. If not, don’t.

8. Brushing teeth after meal

Brushing frequently is not ideal as it could damage tooth enamel. The perfect time to brush your teeth is in the morning and evening.

9. Eliminating pastry products

Just like sweets, you can eat bread without having to worry about your health and waistline, just as long as you eat it moderately.

10. Drinking 2 liters of water every day

Drinking water is essential for cleansing and fueling your system. However, instead of drinking 2 liters of water like you’ve heard a million times before, you should just drink enough water consistent to your weight.
