Harrison Ford has brought to life several iconic characters like Han Solo in the Star Wars films as well as Jack Ryan in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Although these characters have already been portrayed by other actors, there’s one character that Ford says nobody else can actually play except him: Indiana Jones.

The actor was recently a guest on the Today show where he was promoting his new film The Secret Life of Pets 2. Interestingly, the host asked Harrison Ford who he would think should take on the role of Indiana Jones when Ford is done with the part. However, the Air Force One star simply wasn’t having any of it.

“Nobody is going to be Indiana Jones, don’t you get it?” Ford said. “I’m Indiana Jones. When I’m gone, he’s gone.”

As if to make sure people understood what he was trying to express, Ford added that even an A-list actor won’t get the chance to play Indy in a movie after Indiana Jones 5.

“It’s easy… this is a hell of a way to tell Chris Pine this. I’m sorry, man,” he said.

It is unclear why Ford mentioned Chris Pine although there have been no reports of the Wonder Woman star trying to take the role from him. It’s possible that Ford dropped Pine’s name because the actor famously played Jack Ryan in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Why can’t this guy play another Harrison Ford character?

Ford might still be playing the iconic character in Indiana Jones 5 but he’s hardly the only actor to take on the role. The late River Phoenix played the young Indy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Sean Patrick Flanery also portrayed the character in The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles.

It will still be a long wait for Indiana Jones 5. In the meantime, fans can hear Ford provide the voice of a dog named Rooster in The Secret Life of Pets 2, which premieres on June 7.
