  • United States President Donald Trump is again in another controversy as a German newspaper claimed that he allegedly wanted exclusive rights for CureVac’s coronavirus vaccine.
  • The report has gained mixed reactions from both netizens and political analysts.

Amid global panic, President Donald Trump is currently in hot water after getting accused of attempting to bribe German scientists, allegedly urging them to make their anti-coronavirus vaccine exclusively for the United States.

In a report by Reuters, a source of the German government claims that the US leader wanted to obtain the rights for CureVac, which is currently a work in progress.

The said report quoted Welt am Sonntag, a newspaper in Germany, which said a source from the government told them that Pres. Trump wanted to get the vaccine “but only for the United States.”

“There is talk of a billion dollars in Berlin,” wrote German newspaper Welt am Sonntag.

Moreover, the report further claimed that Trump offered to move the CureVac research team to the US.

The allegations have apparently been confirmed to Reuters by a German Health Ministry representative, saying the Welt am Sonntag article was accurate.

Hopp Bio Tech Holding chief executive Christoff Hettich later clarified in a media interview that their desire is to create the vaccine for the entire world as opposed to just “individual countries.”

The company is one of the major investors for CureVac.

Like other countries, the United States is struggling to deal with the coronavirus crisis. And now Pres. Trump is in the midst of another controversy.

Political scientist Dr Brian Klaas of University College London also commented about the issue, bashing the president on Twitter, writing:

“He wanted it “for the US only.” How many new lows will he set for the United States? “
