25 Things You Were Probably Cleaning Wrong

Are you OC with your cleaning? What if we told you that you just might probably be cleaning some of your household items wrong because you were so used to seeing your parents do it that way while you were growing up. You’d be surprised to know that there are easier ways to clean certain things from the ones you were accustomed to.

Part of the cleaning process is the efficiency that goes with it. It would be a waste of time if you put all your efforts trying to get a kitchenware cleaned while the rest of the house is a mess. Hopefully, after going through this list, cleaning will be your all-time favorite household chore to do. Or not. Happy cleaning, everyone!

We normally wash the sponge and leave it to dry after use. The thing is, this process doesn’t kill the germs and bacteria left. Microwave the sponge on high for two minutes to ensure bacteria is gone.

An better way to wipe off all the spilled food in the microwave is to mix vinegar and water in a cup, place it inside and let it run on high for a few minutes. The grime will come off surprisingly easier than when you would normally just wipe it off.

The best way to clean the iron is to put some table salt on the board and iron it. Turn the iron off and let it cool down for awhile. Wipe off the dirt afterwards.

Cleaning a painting can be quite difficult because you surely don’t want to ruin it especially if it’s expensive. Use doughy bread to clean your artwork. Pat the painting gently with the bread and when it’s all soiled up, use another piece until the whole painting is clean.

Getting rid of the dirt that’s clogged your shower head is pretty easy. Use white vinegar and place it in a plastic bag, and secure it around the shower head. Take it off after a few hours and be ready to wipe off the dirt.

The common way we clean mattresses at home is by beating it as hard as we can. The more efficient way involves applying baking soda all over the mattress and letting it sit there for a few hours. Vacuum the mattress after. Want the mattress to smell good? Apply a few drops of your favorite essential oil scent as you clean.

Cleaning the blender can be quite tricky if not painful lest you get your fingers cut by the blades. Just pour hot water and dish soap into the blender, let it run for a few minutes, and then rinse!

Washing the board with running water is not enough. Take a piece of lemon and salt and rub it on the board. Salt dislodges the dirt and lemon rinses the board of the unwanted odor.

Got a heavily tangled hair brush? Use a pair of scissors to cut through the hair. It would then be easier to remove the remaining tangles out of the brush.

Wiping blinds with a piece of cloth doesn’t actually remove all the dust and dirt that’s collected. A more efficient way to remove the dirt is to soak an old sock or piece of cloth to a mixture of vinegar and warm water (again) and use it to start wiping. The results will amaze you.

Using a sponge is not the best option to clean your grater. The best tool is a potato. Yep, you read that one right. A potato’s oxalic acid will instantly remove the cheese debris.

Soap won’t do if you would like your sneaker soles to be as white as they were when you bought them. Use toothpaste instead.

Is your silverware looking a bit dull even after all the cleaning? Try this hack instead: Bring to a boil a liter of water, baking soda and aluminum foil and place the silver item in it. Let it sit for around 30 seconds. Slowly remove from the water, and viola! Clean as new.

The most stubborn food residue will have no match with coarse salt and water. Rub it on the dirty part and be ready to be amazed.

Get rid of the bacteria thriving in your toothbrush by immersing it into a mixture of vinegar and water. Rinse after.

Ensure that the toaster is unplugged first then pull out all the crumb drawers. Remove all the crumbs and dust the outside of the toaster with water and tartar cream.

Using a feather duster to clean your furniture will work, but it would be absolutely better if you utilized a dryer sheet to make sure that the dust doesn’t collect on the furniture, too.

Yes, even your dishwasher needs cleaning. Place a cup of water with vinegar inside and spread baking soda on the bottom. Run it on hot cycle and it will be clean.

Wet the window with soap and water then carefully remove the stains with a razor blade.

Hair that has been stuck in furniture can be quite frustrating to clean. Instead of using a vacuum, employ a squeegee instead. The rubber blade gathers the hair in an instant.

Instead of using soap, use baking soda instead. Or you may also utilize salt, egg yolks and vinegar. Yes, they’re all readily available in the kitchen.

Tiny shards of broken glass can cause unwanted splinters. To avoid this from happening, use a piece of bread to pick up the tiny pieces. Make sure to throw the bread away right after!

If your coffee tastes slightly off, wash your coffee maker with water and vinegar mixture.
