This heartbreaking advertisement from China has been making rounds on the internet lately. The short 1-minute clip shows a little girl who, like most kids, really wants to spend more time with her father.

The video begins with a father standing in front of a cash point and opening his wallet which contains a photo of his wife and daughter. This part establishes that yes, the father is miles away from his family – or is at least spending too much time on his work.

This touching Chinese ad has caught the attention of netizens across the world.

Next, the man’s wife and daughter are shown withdrawing some cash at their side of the machine. The mother tells her child, “Daddy gave me some pocket money, let’s go and buy something” to which, the little girl responds “Is daddy coming with us?”

The mom sadly replies “Daddy is busy, sorry sweetheart” and then we see a montage of father-and-daughter moments as imagined by the kid.

Honestly, this one tugged at my heartstrings.

The video ends with a powerful message that said:

“Childhood is only experienced once in a lifetime. Daddy I just want you by my side.”

According to The Mirror, the ad was conceptualized after a survey in China confirmed that around 70% of parents born in the 1980s are not spending quality time with their children today.

Conducted by China’s New Weekly, the saddening survey found out that 9% of parents take care of their children full time while only 76% spend time with their children after working hours and on weekends.

“In family relationships,” renowned religious leader Dieter Uchtdorf once said “love is really spelled t-i-m-e, time. Taking time for each other is the key for harmony at home.”
