Not a Single Classmate Showed Up at An Autistic Boy’s Birthday. But Kind Strangers Did THIS!
What could have ended up being a heartbreaking day was completely turned around by the kindness of strangers.
St. Cloud, Florida — Glenn Buratti, 6, woke up on the morning of February 8, with feelings of joyful anticipation for his birthday party later that day. He kept on asking his mom, Ashlee, 25 and mother of three, how many minutes until his classmates will arrive. The boy who has epilepsy and mild autism kept looking at his dear watch all day, but sadly, none of his 16 classmates showed up. His mother recalls how tears welled up Glenn’s eyes after learning that none of his ‘friends’ was coming.
Filled with frustration, Ashlee posted on a Facebook page named Osceola Rants, Raves, and Reviews List, how she and her family felt with what had happened. The post on the page with more than 10,000 said,
“I know this might be something silly to rant about, but my heart is breaking for my son. We invited his whole class (16 kids) over for his 6th birthday party today. Not one kid came,”
With more than 10,000 members, Buratti was bombarded with messages from the page members asking if they could bring their children and attend Glenn’s birthday party instead.

Apparently, the news reached the Osceola Country Sheriff’s office, whose staff asked the address of the Buratti residence so they could fly in a helicopter to surprise the birthday boy. True enough, Glenn, who adores public safety and law enforcement, was delighted as the pilot flew the helicopter low enough, and waved to the beaming child.

Having completely forgotten the negative vibes of the day, Ashley said that she noticed his naturally shy child go out of his way today and treat his new friends as if they have known each other for years. She added, “In general, deputies have big hearts – they thought about their own kids and wanted to make this boy happy because it was such a sad situation.”
All in all, 15 kids and 25 adults came in to celebrate Glenn’s 6th birthday. The guests gave the celebrant toys, and one woman even gave him a bike! Another sweet gesture that the family appreciated well was when a man came in and took pictures of the event, which he later gave to the Buratti’s. “It was just amazing. The people who came out were so awesome,” the mother told the Osceola News-Gazette.

The surprises did not end on Sunday night, as a number of employees from the Sheriff’s Office and Osceola Country Fire Rescue came on Wednesday for an encore treat. As Glenn walked home from school during that afternoon, he saw the fire truck and exclaimed, “The fire truck’s at our house!” But the mother who was aware of the surprise visit, gladly said, “It’s ok, they’re here to tell you happy birthday.” More than a greeting, the staff showered the boy with more gifts, and gave him a chance to tour the patrol cars, fire truck, motorcycles, and a SWAT vehicle.
