Mom Furious After Seven-Year-Old Son Used Credit Card To Buy Golden Toy Collectible Worth $10,000

"I think it's just ludicrous this could happen. It's certainly nothing we've budgeted for and nothing we can afford."

Donna Jacob from Sydney, Australia, has been left distraught after her seven-year-old son purchased a $10,000 Coles Stikeez collectible she could not afford. The 47-year-old mom is now begging for a refund.

The rare “Billy Bananas” have been sold online for as much as $20,000, so the boy must have felt he had found a bargain. The young kid, who has autism, is a huge fan of the rare collectible range.

Donna’s son had previously asked her permission to buy the rare item, but when she refused, he used the family computer to search for it. Using his mom’s credit card, he easily purchased the toy online. Just like most details listed in our online accounts, Donna’s credit card details were automatically filled in.

The only reason why Donna discovered the pricey purchase is when eBay sent a confirmation email.

She said:

“I think it’s just ludicrous this could happen. It’s certainly nothing we’ve budgeted for and nothing we can afford. Between PayPal and the bank, there should be at least one stopper that says ‘hang on, this isn’t right’… and no one did. I just don’t go out and spend $10,000 in one transaction, so they definitely need protocols in place to stop this happening.”

Donna claims eBay told her the incident was “friendly fraud” and she was unlikely to get her money back. She also repeatedly reached out to her bank, eBay, and PayPal in a desperate attempt to correct her son’s mistake.

After being contacted by numerous media outlets, eBay eventually agreed to refund the purchase to Donna.

A spokesman said in a statement:

“To ensure eBay remains a safe and secure marketplace, account holders must be over 18. A person under the age of 18 can use an adult’s account with their permission; however, the account holder is ultimately responsible for any activity.”
