‘Greatest Showman’ Sequel Is Officially In The Works, Says Hugh Jackman

"'Cause every night I lie in bed, the brightest colors fill my head."

If you are a fan of The Greatest Showman, we have good news for you: work on the highly-anticipated sequel has officially begun!

This has been confirmed by Hugh Jackman himself in a recent interview with BBC Radio 2. The actor, who was promoting his new movie Missing Link, told host Steve Wright that the box office musical is making a grand comeback to the big screen, although he was obviously trying to stay on the safe side of things.

When asked about the possibility of a sequel, Jackman responded:

“The real answer is ‘could be’, I’m not sure. I’m being completely honest with you, there is talk of something going around but no one is really sure.

“I think right now there’s more emphasis being put on what will happen with… ‘I was doing my show, will there be another live version’. No one is really sure right now, so that’s the honest truth.

“But I think someone is working on a treatment for something… I know they are, they’re working on a treatment for something.”

So would he be willing to return as P.T. Barnum for the next movie?

The Wolverine actor said:

“I don’t know. I would like to be part of it, for sure, and I don’t know if it would be centred on my character. The other thing is, it did take eight years to get [the first movie] made and that wasn’t all eight years of convincing people. It takes a long time to write stuff.”

This, of course, wasn’t the first time that Jackman admitted he will definitely be interested to play the character again.

In an earlier interview, he commented:

“If a genuine opportunity came up where it felt like the right thing to do, then yep, I’d get the top hat back out.”

Meanwhile, director Michael Gracey has likewise told The Sun that they’re already working on getting the sequel running.

He said:

“When a movie becomes as big a success as this, it’s only natural there is demand for a sequel. So those discussions have started and we are working on one right now.”

The Greatest Showman earned $345 million in the box office and gained many positive reviews from critics and viewers alike.
