With so many movies and TV series focusing on a zombie apocalypse, it’s likely that at some point, you would wonder what will happen when the dreaded event becomes real.

Will you be prepared to survive it all? What weapons will you scavenge from the wastelands to help defend yourself from a horde of flesh-eating corpses? Most importantly, where will you hide?

Here are 15 places that you can take refuge in the event of a zombie apocalypse.

Military bases

This is definitely an excellent hiding place. You have access to weapons and you can also get help from other survivors—if there are any. The catch is that you have to settle for canned goods.

Mountain mines

They are also great as a hideout, just make sure you don’t choose the old and abandoned ones as they are at risk for collapsing. Mines usually have water purifiers and air filters inside so you’re good to go.

Lighthouse

It’s elevated and is beyond the reach of the slow-moving creatures (assuming they are really slow and not World War Z-zombie fast). Since you’ll be high up, you can also be on the lookout—and of course, you’re near water.

They are equipped with security cameras so hiding in these buildings will help you monitor the world from the inside — if there is electricity, of course.

They are ideal, but you don’t really get to see a lot of them these days, except in Europe.

Small, desolate town

An abandoned town can be creepy but it will give you the best chances of survival. It has access to stores for your supplies, plus it’s not heavily populated so there’ll be less chances of having an encounter with zombies.

Ship

This has got to be the safest place where you can hide, given that you don’t have an infected person on board. It’s mobile and it’s on water. Zombies can’t swim, they say. Let’s just hope you won’t be dealing with a mutated swimming corpse.

Underground bunkers

They can be pretty tricky to locate, but they actually exist and they can offer sanctuary from a chaotic zombie-infested world.

Area 51

This isolated place is an ideal refuge from flesh-eating zombies. It’s not populated so a zombie is unlikely to look for its prey here.

Caves

Surviving in a cave can be pretty awesome. Just make sure you set up your defenses at the entrance. Also, check that the caves are not inhabited by bears or other predators, or you’ll be just as doomed as being a zombie meal.
