Rowan Atkinson Reveals He’ll Never Play Mr. Bean Ever Again As It’s “Stressful and Exhausting”

The actor admitted he does not "enjoy" playing the famous character.

Here’s some bad news for fans hoping to see Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean: the English actor has hinted he will never play the role ever again, saying he finds it “stressful and exhausting.”

In a recent Radio Times interview, the 66-year-old comedian has admitted he does not enjoy playing the character because of the “weight of responsibility.”

“I don’t much enjoy playing him. The weight of responsibility is not pleasant. I find it stressful and exhausting, and I look forward to the end of it,” Atkinson confessed.

The Mr. Bean sitcom ran on television from 1990 to 1995. In 1997, the Bean feature film debuted on the big screen. The sequel Mr. Bean’s Holiday Special hit theaters in 2007.

Meanwhile, an animated Mr. Bean series also debuted on television in 2002. Atkinson also did the voice acting for the character on the show.

So what’s the next for Mr. Bean himself? Atkinson shared:

“Having made an animated TV series, we’re now in the foothills of developing an animated movie for Mr Bean – it’s easier for me to perform the character vocally than visually.”

Of course, it’s easy for the actor to see how the character became a massive global hit.

“Watching an adult behaving in a childish way without being remotely aware of his inappropriateness is fundamentally funny,” he said. “The fact the comedy is visual rather than verbal means it has been successful internationally, too.”

Currently, Atkinson is working on a new Netflix comedy series called Man vs Bee which is about a man who “finds himself at war with a bee while housesitting a luxurious mansion,” according to an IMBD listing.
