Quarterback Keeps His Promise in 4th Grade and Takes His Friend with Down Syndrome to Prom.
High school quarterback kept his promise in 4th grade and asked his friend with down syndrome to go to prom with him.
If you think prom-proposals are over, this just might be the best way to end the season. Well, save the best for last they say. We all have been witnesses of countless ‘promposals’ all over social media sites being a new trend today–some successful, others not while the rest are quite entertaining, epic and hilarious. Meanwhile, this ‘promposal’ is the sweetest I would say.
Ben Moser, a high school quarterback has made a promise to his mother in 4th grade that when he is old enough, he will take his friend Mary to prom. Mary Lapkowicz has Down syndrome but despite of it, Ben thinks she is amazing and that she deserves a normal and happy teenage life just like the rest. The two shared a special bond and has remained good friends for years now. Ben has always been there for Mary–a friend and protector especially when times are tough for her.
How caring and protective Ben is of Mary is also no secret to the people who know them, their teacher even said,
He watched over her constantly. If she was looking like she wasn’t having fun, he would go over and talk to her. He would pull her in to whatever activity they were doing. He just always watched out for her.
‘I thought Mary was really cool,’ said Ben. ‘She was sweet and easy to get along with.’
‘He was sweet and he was nice,’ Mary said describing Ben.

Even though they are no longer in the same school, Ben kept his word. He recently surprised Mary and gave her a bunch of balloons with ‘Prom?’ written on them. Mary was both delighted and surprised by Ben’s sweet gesture, a ‘prom-promise’ turned sweet ‘promposal’ which she answered with a yes.
The lovely pair attended Ben’s prom at Susquehanna Township High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania which made everything more special for Mary whose initial plan was to go to the prom with her friends.
‘She talked about going to prom,’ Mary’s father said. ‘I’d taken her to homecoming and stuff, but she had prom on her mind all along.’
‘I presented her with the balloons and asked her to go to prom with me,’ Ben said. (Awww!)
Here’s a photo of Mary posing with family and friends before the big event. Isn’t she lovely?
They are just as happy that she was with Ben and they have nothing but praises for their endearing friend Mary. As they posted on Reddit,
I know Mary and can sincerely say that she is the sweetest girl ever. She always brings me a smile in the hallway and never fails to give the greatest hugs.
I have to say, both Mary and Ben make an amazing date. They even deserve the Prom King and Queen Titles. What do you think?
