Judge Orders Man To Write 144 Nice Things About His Ex After Violating Protection Order

A good decision or a ridiculous one? What do you think, guys?

By the nature of their work, judges play a crucial role in ensuring that justice is served. They must be extremely familiar with existing laws, carefully scrutinize evidences, and, of course, exercise sound judgment.

Of course, we’ve heard about great judges who gave clever punishments as well as those who took a pretty unorthodox approach in their work. And then there are those that make us question whether the law system is just a big joke or something.

Case in point, one judge recently got the attention of netizens after an unusual decision she made.

According to reports, Maui Second Circuit Judge Rhonda Loo ordered Daren Young, 30, to write 144 nice things about his ex-girlfriend. This was after he violated her protection order.

Apparently, the woman sought for protection from Young after they separated.

A couple of months later, however, he began communicating with her again.

In a 3-hour period, he called and sent her 144 messages. His ex-girlfriend accused him of saying “nasty things” in both his calls and messages.

After gathering information about the case, Judge Loo ordered Young to do something – write one “nice thing” for every “nasty thing” he said about his ex-girlfriend.

She told him:

“For every nasty thing you said about her, you’re going to say a nice thing. No repeating words.”

The judge likewise continued:

“I don’t know whether I should cut off your fingers or take away your phone to get you to stop texting. You probably shouldn’t get a phone, period. I hope she changed her number. It’s so childish to think a grown man can be so thumb-happy.”

As anyone can expect, the judge’s order received mixed reactions from netizens on social media. When AP Oddities posted the news on Twitter, some responded with strong opinions about the topic.

While some agreed that it was a good idea…

In addition to the unexpected punishment, Young was also “sentenced to two years’ probation, 200 hours of community service, and a $2,400 fine.” Young had already spent 157 days in jail before the sentencing.
