80 Years Ago, Both Their Families Disapproved. Now, They’re The Oldest Married Couple On The Planet

"True love stands the test of time..."

  • Julio Cesar Mora,110, and his wife, Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes, 104, has been married for 79 years.
  • In June, the Guinness World Records recognized them as “The Oldest Married Couple” with an aggregate age of 214 years and 358 days.
  • The Ecuadorian couple has five children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 9 great, great grandchildren.
  • Julio and Waldramina, both retired teachers, believe that love, maturity, and respect are the key to a long, happy marriage.

Julio Cesar Mora was born on March 10, 1910, while his belove Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes was born on October 16,1915. They decided to tie the knot on February 7, 1941. Despite the challenges and struggles, the couple’s union only became stronger.

After 79 fruitful years, Julio, aged 110 and Waldramina, 104, now hold the title as “The Oldest Married Couple” with a combined age of 214 years and 358 days.

He was 31 years old when he met Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros Reyes. She was only 25 years old then.

During school vacation, Waldramina visited her sister, who lived in the same building as Julio. He happens to be a cousin of the husband of Waldramina’s sister.

“When Julio César met me, he says that when he saw me, I had arrived with my father, he was looking secretly and that he promised himself that I would be his wife,” Waldramina told Times 24 Story.

She captivated Julio’s heart with her beauty and firm character. Meanwhile, his loving nature, youthful spirit, and literary skills made Waldramina fall in love him.

After seven years of courtship, they secretly married at La Iglesia El Belén, the oldest church in Quito, Ecuador. Both of their families were against their relationship, therefore only their godparents and close friends attended the intimate ceremony.

Fortunately, the hostility did not last. Waldramina said, “With time and patience we were able to unite them and we became an example and the best reference for the younger generations.”
“Family unity under the rules of love, mutual respect, honest work, and proper education based on family values are the keys to healthy coexistence,” the couple told Guinness World Records.

“Respect, compassion and consideration with which we maintained our relationship was very important; we never argued or fought. There were disagreements, but they were not noticeable to any of our children who also deserved respect and love,” they said in the statement.

“He esteemed me a lot and he would fix whatever situation there was in a few hours, explaining why it had happened and then everything is fine,” Waldramina told Times 24 Story in an interview.

79 years has passed and the couple still enjoy each other’s company.

“The love and maturity that we had as a couple from the beginning of the marriage allowed us to know each other and grow emotionally to define our future.”

Julio and Waldramina raised five children who all graduated from college.
The family grew larger as they now have 11 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 9 great, great grandkids.

According to Aura Cecilia, one of their daughters, the family likes going to the movies or to the theater together. They love planting and harvesting plants and fruits, which they share with family and friends through big dinners. Sadly, however, Julio and Waldramina’s eldest son passed away at the age of 58.

On June 23,2020 The Guinness World Records recognized Julio and Waldramina as “The Oldest Married Couple, with an aggregate age of 214 years and 358 days.”

The retired teachers surpassed Charlotte and John Henderson. They used to hold the title as the oldest couple in the world at 212 years and 52 days.

“For us, Julio Cesar and Waldramina, it is a great honor and pride to have a Guinness World Records title because it is the highest award that the world recognizes.”
