Ziplining is one of those adrenaline-filled activities that let you experience the thrill of flying with the safety of harnesses and cables. You go from point A to point B in a straight line – that’s definitely Instagram-worthy. Now if only you could tag along a couple of friends to experience the thrill of ziplining together…
Icy Strait Point in Hoonah, Alaska lets you do just that! The zipline itself is 5,495 feet long with a vertical drop of 1,320 feet, and you and 5 other friends can all make the jump together. And the top speed? An astounding 65 mph!
It takes about 90 seconds to get from the top to the beach at Icy Strait, and while you’re on the ride you can marvel at the deep forest below. You might even see whales and other marine life in the first part of the dive.
So how does the entire ride go? First, you’ll take a short walk through the old-growth rainforest up to the launching area. And after your safety briefing, you’ll be organized into groups of six, and then you’ll prepare for take-off!
Just remember, before you get on the ride, you must follow some basic precautions.
First, make sure you’re wearing warm, layered clothes to withstand the weather. Raingear may sometimes be necessary.
Second, you must wear shoes that are closed and secure. This ensures that your shoes don’t fall off during the ride, and you don’t scrape your toes during landing.
Third, participants must be between 75-275 pounds, and comfortable with heights. If you’re not within this range, the security harnesses might not be secured properly.
Lastly, the ride isn’t recommended for those who have back and neck problems, and those who are pregnant.
