UK Holds First “Socially Distanced Concert,” Showing Us What The New Normal Looks Like

Around 2,500 fans gathered at the venue. And yes, they observed physical distancing measures!

Over the past few months, numerous musical acts from all over the globe have made announcements on social media, informing their fans that their upcoming tours and concerts have officially been canceled.

This is, of course, because of the coronavirus pandemic that has since prompted governments to close their borders, impose lockdowns, and implement social distancing measures to prevent the spread of the contagious disease.

Fast forward to the present,some countries are now easing restrictions and some organizers are now coming up with strategies to push through with their events while still ensuring the safety of fans and artists alike.

Case in point, a pop-up venue in the United Kingdom recently made headlines after its photos went viral online.

According to the reports, around 2,500 fans gathered in the outdoor event Virgin Money Unity held in Newcastle’s Gosforth Park- which has since been described by organizers as the “first socially distanced concert in the UK.”

Organizers provided raised metal platforms that can accommodate up to five individuals as they watched the performance of show headliner Sam Fender.

The crew also ensured proper physical distancing is observed by instructing concert-goers to park their vehicles 2 meters apart before guiding them to their own platforms. Meanwhile, food and drinks can be ordered for delivery or collection.

In an interview, Virgin Money group brand and marketing director Helen Page shared:

“We are delighted to play a part in bringing back live music events as we start to emerge from lockdown.”

“This feels like a unique opportunity to celebrate music and all the wonderful emotions that come with experiencing it live alongside other music fans,” she also added.
